What topics I chose and Why:
The two topics I chose from the UNESCO website were "Upper Middle Rhine Valley" and "Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Worlitz." I chose these two topics because I thought they sounded like somewhere I would like to visit someday.
About the Topics:
The "Garden Kingdom." is one of the largest English parks in Germany and Europe. It all began with the Oranienbaum Palace in the 17th century, but didn't fully start becoming the "Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Worlitz until the 18th century. The garden consists of the Oranienbaum Palace and the Worliter Park. The Worlitzer Park includes the Worlitzer Palace, the Rock Island & Villa Hamilton, the Luisium Castle, which was a gift from Duke Leopold III to his wife Louise, and the Georgium Castle. The design and whole idea of the park was mainly influenced by The Enlightenment. I chose to research this topic because it sounded beautiful just in the name. After learning more about it, I have found that I would really like to visit this place if I ever decide to travel abroad.
The "Upper Middle Rhine Valley" is a part of the Rhine River in Germany and is also known as the Rhine Gorge. It is known for its unique combination of geological, historical, cultural and industrial reasons. Cities that are along the Gorge are Koblenz, Lahnstein, Rhens, Braubach, Boppard, St. Goarshausen,Sankt Goar, Oberwesel, Kaub, Bacharach, Lorch, Assmannshausen, Bingen, and Rudesheim. For the same reasons of choosing the Garden Kingdom, I chose to study the Rhine Gorge because it sounded pretty and a peaceful place to visit.
What I am more interested in:
Now that I have had a chance to get to explore each of my topics, I am more interested in the "Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Worlitz." The romance of how many of the buildings were given as gifts to their wives were well enough to keep me interested. After looking at the photos of each place, I would rather visit the Gardens instead.
